2021 APPLE CROP UPDATE
During the spring blossom season, the southeastern United States experienced 4 damaging freezes. Luckily, with the aid of our wind machine and over-head irrigation, we were able to save a significant amount of our crop. We have spent the summer caring for and assessing our apples. Out of the 22 varieties of apples we grow, some are abundant, some are not.
A couple years ago we were able to expand the farm by purchasing a neighboring farm. This spring we planted apple trees on part of the new land and we had space left over. Pondering what to do with the new, open space....
We decided to plant tens of thousands of flower seeds!
WHY A PICKING PASS?
During 2020 we were blessed with record crowds and attendance. However, at times it became unmanageable as I'm sure many of our visitors can attest. Given our smaller crop of apples - when you make the journey to come here, we want you to be able to find a parking place, be guaranteed there are apples or flowers to harvest, not wait in long lines, and simply enjoy quality time with your family in a beautiful environment.
We will be charging $3 per person to enter the orchard/flower field. Children 2 years of age and younger are free. The admission will grant you access to both areas regardless of what you are picking.
The admission tickets will be sold online through our website. The quantity of tickets available will change on a daily basis depending on the amount of apples or flowers available for u-pick. Because it is hard to anticipate the amount of ripe fruit far in advance, tickets will not be released until a few days prior. If we have not sold out of tickets online in advance, we will happily sell tickets to walk up visitors. However, once tickets are sold out for the day we will not be able to accommodate walk ups.
From Our Family To Yours
Nestled in the South Mountains of Western North Carolina, Apple Hill Orchard is conveniently located just south of Morganton, NC. Our family has been growing apples in this location since 1955, and the orchard its self dates to 1930!
While the orchard has dramatically changed since then, one thing remains the same: we love welcoming visitors each fall and seeing customers return year after year to join the harvest.
